This promo was created to promote 5 On Your Side’s parade season for 2024.

JAN 2024 - WINTER WX

Our team was challenged to create a promo, to say “Hey, weather isn’t that scary we’ll just let you know what’s up.”, within less than 24 hours. Everyone in our team collaborated on the script. I handled project organization, ensuring an easier workflow for our editor, while doing as much graphic work as I could in advance. This was challenging as I didn’t fully know the timing of the voice or what the edit was going to look like.

As soon as I received the edit, I spent 3-4 hours rotoscoping and making changes to my previous guesstimate graphics. This time also included concepting graphics & their motion, selecting colors for emphasis - as silly as that sounds, and reviewing for any potential visual mistakes & making sure they fit in our brand.

A :15/:10/:05/:04 was made in conjunction with this promo.

OLD MAN WINTER

We continue the tradition of welcoming Old Man Winter back around! For 2023, we went for a postcard theme to travel to different areas around Saint Louis while showing connection & holiday cheer the season brings.

For this project, I created the concept & collaborated with my team on how we wanted to execute this. Bouncing ideas back and forth, as a group, we decided to craft postcards to transition into the next shot. Because of this idea, I created a storyboard and managed a workflow timeline for the team so we could meet our deadline and avoid any foreseeable obstacles that may come our way. The workflow timeline varied between on-location filming, scheduling time for our editor, scheduling time for my graphics & illustrations, and nailing the order of our shot list.

My role, in graphics, required me to take the first or last frame of the shot & rebuild it in Adobe Illustrator. After building it, I printed the postcards so we could utilize it in our promo. I also created the ‘construction paper’ end tag for the promo to bring joy to the season! Our editor added a VHS aesthetic to bring back a 2000s home movie vibe to the holidays.

Overall, this took 2-3 weeks to accomplish. A :15 cutdown was created as well.

TODAY IN ST. LOUIS | ON THE ROAD

Today in St. Louis is on the road in May (2023) - filming live shows every Friday in May from Florissant, MO, Belleville, IL, Affton, MO, to St. Charles, MO. I went out to each area, along with my team, to film different local businesses to gather a sense of community. This included calling each business beforehand, scheduling, and time management.

Once we finished filming, my Creative Director & I tag teamed on this edit. We wanted to follow the flow of the music while keeping the authentic parts of our communities in the St. Louis region. Additionally, we wanted to ensure that it would have our brand image.

I also worked on all the graphics for this spot - our ‘Focused On You’ campaign initially started with the line, “The real St. Louis isn’t a postcard.” and I wanted to emphasize this by having people pop out of postcard-like frames. I kept our use of brackets in mind as well & used them more subtly to maintain focus on the people who make St. Louis unique.

There are a few :15 versions created for this campaign - highlighting each area Today In St. Louis is visiting. Additionally, an alternate :30 has been made.

TODAY IN ST. LOUIS | WEATHER FIRST ALT

This promo was created to continue showcasing our Weather First campaign, our commitment to put Weather First for our viewers.

This spot is a little different from the others. We were given the challenge to “create something that would never air” and go wild with our creativity. It’s a dream to work under these conditions and it’s also intimidating! I wanted to try different graphic elements that I hadn’t been able to utilize in the past - as well as try new things. The intro graphics were done by our editor, Austin Muschamp, he set the tone which helped me take off with the rest of the graphics.

Annie Malone | Register

It’s time for one of the oldest & largest parade in St. Louis to come back! Our goal was to promote the 113th Annie Malone parade & focus on what is has to offer. The footage in this promo is absolutely stunning and my priority was to ensure my graphics would supplement it and never take away from the footage itself.

I decided to paint on the graphics in After Effects, which was also my first time trying out rotoscope animation! I felt that it would capture the parade’s spirt and enhance the already beautiful footage with an extra pop of color.

WEATHER FIRST DEBUT

At 5 On Your Side, we put Weather FIRST.

Welcome the debut of Weather First! This is the beginning of a campaign, as mentioned earlier, that showcases our commitment of putting Weather First to inform our viewers. In Saint Louis, you never know what the weather will bring!

In this promo, I felt the graphics not only needed to be subtle - it needed to emphasize weather. I took this time to find weather elements that matched the edit, then used blending modes & color correction to have the text blend in.

TISL Community

This is from a series of promotions we did for Today in St. Louis. It also really solidified our ‘Focused on You’ campaign utilizing white boxes and red brackets to frame everyday St. Louisans (and those in the region). We wanted to make this energetic, inviting, and amp people up to watch Today in St. Louis early in the morning.

The series of these promotions includes one that aired within the North County region & another that aired within the South County region. We also made shortened versions of this promo: :15/:05/:04.
